Beer for Slugs

I normally use pellets to control slugs but a few people have raised concerns that they harm birds and small animals. I am not convinced but have decided to test some alternatives. I had a few cans of expired Guinness in the house and set some out in shallow containers and semi-buried cups in the garden. Interested to see how effective they are over the next few days.

  1. So any thoughts on the Beer V Slug Bait? And how did you manage to have expired cans of Guinness?

  2. I must have some slugs that are beer connoisseurs because they did not touch it. My neighbour on the other hand uses the cheapest Lidl beer he can buy and ends up with a bowl full of slugs. He says it is effective for about 5 days before needing to top up with a fresh drop.

It has been raining all this week and the slug are really active now so I will give it another go. I haven't given up yet.

Also came across Nemaslug which is supposed to effective and pet, child safe. Haven't tried it myself but will give it a try
