Plastering Preparation

Before starting any plastering I had quite a few corners to bead. I use metal angle beads on external corners, around door openings, and reveals. The metal beads will give a nice sharp finish on the plastered corners and they will also help protect corners from knocks.
The beads are cut to length, the ends are then cut back at 45° which prevents the bead ends from flaring out when attached. The beads are attached with plasterboard screws. The How 2 Plaster website has some good tips on beading and plastering.
All internal corners and sheet joints were taped with scrim tape. This helps prevent the plaster cracking along sheet joints when dry. The tape is self adhesive on one side making it easy to install. Ultimate Handyman have a short explanation on how to apply scrim tape.
