I have also started to harvest a few onions but since there is a large variety in the bulb sizes I am harvesting them as we need them for cooking.

2011 Garlic Harvest
The title says it all. I harvested all of this year's garlic crop this afternoon. This year I over-wintered my garlic with a result that the crop is ready to harvest a full month ahead of last year's crop. I got able 30 decent sized bulbs which I left to dry in the sun. I lost a few bulbs to onion white rot but in general I have a good harvest that will last us a few months.
I have also started to harvest a few onions but since there is a large variety in the bulb sizes I am harvesting them as we need them for cooking.
The raised bed space freed up by the garlic has now been transplanted with a few runner bean plants I got from an neighbour in exchange for some chilli plants. I also dibbed in some leaks. Probably not the best idea to plant another member of the allium family in the same area but I have very little space left for planting. Lets hope I don't have too many problems with diseased leeks later in the year.
