Potatoes Planted

This weekend was the first for some time where the ground was not frozen or too wet to work. I got to work in the garden for a few hours this afternoon digging over one of my raised beds and planting the seed potatoes which have been chitting indoors since mid-February. Since the potatoes are late going into the ground it will probably mean a late harvest for my first earlies.

I also sowed the first of this year's seed:

  • A pack of leek seeds, variety Castor. They should be ready to dib in sometime in July and harvest November to February. Leeks are a good over winter crop, easy to grow and low maintenance. I am still eating the last of last year's leek crop.
  • A pack of runner beans, variety White Emergo. It is the first time I have grown runner beans.
  • A tray of Greyhound cabbage.
  • A tray of mangetout, variety Oregon Sugar Pod.
