Home Office Shelving

I have been making more use of my attic space as a home office and have been making improvements with the addition of some extra shelving. I had enough offcuts of 25mm glue laminated pine panel to make the main shelf structures and 6mm plywood sheeting for the backing.

After cutting the shelf sides, top, and bottom to size I made a simple jig so I could repeatably drill support holes for the shelves. Holes were drilled at 50mm centres which allows a large range for shelf  height placement.

I had a bunch of nickel plated shelf support plug in and sleeves left over from a previous project and used these for supports.

The sides are aligned to the top and bottom parts with dominos and secured using pocket hole joints. A sheet of 6mm plywood are cut to size and screwed the back to complete the shelf frame. Two shelves where cut to fit inside from the remain glue laminated board. All parts were sanded and varnished.

An hour with a multitool and I have two new holes in the attic side wall ready for the shelves to be fitted. Once fitted and secured in place I completed the surround trim with a length of 3" x 1" PAO. A lick of paint completes the job.
