Study desk

With school due to start back next week I had a special request from my daughter for a larger study space. The short wall of our box room is 2.4m in length which is a perfect size for standard sheet material.

I bought a 2,400 x 1,200 x 25mm sheet of solid pine board and cut a 700mm wide length for the desk  top, and a 250mm wide length for the shelf. Large holes were drilled in the back corners for cable access. The desk and shelf were fixed to the wall on 3" x 1" PAO battens. To help avoid the desk and shelf sagging in the middle I recycled an old curtain pole as centre supports.

All pieces were sanded and primed before finishing with two coats of Mylands Haymarket paint. Total material cost for this project was about €100.
