Using some offcuts of gutter pipe and two end caps I created a simple seed propagator. Simply fill the gutter with some potting compost and sow your seeds. Sowing seeds in a gutter allows you to easily move the length of pipe to best position in the garden as weather conditions change and there is no soil preparation required. When the plants have reach a size ready for planting on simply remove the end cap and slide out individual plants to transplant.
Using a length of gutter pipe to propagate plants to maturity is an option if you have a lack of garden space. You can sow salad crops, cut and come again herbs (rocket, basil, coriander) and shallow root crops like radishes.
I sowed bush beans and chives in my gutter.
