Hammocks, Hammocks, Hammocks

With June being a scorcher of a month I ordered some hammocks last weekend. They promptly arrived yesterday as the skies opened up. The forecast for the next 5 days is no better. I ordered two Amazonas double hammocks online (£45 each + £20 delivery).

First thing this morning I was down to the building providers to buy some eye bolts and then onto O' Kelly's Sawmill to buy two 3.6m long x 125mm round posts (€31 each) and some more eye bolts.

My plan is to drive a post into the corner of two of my raised beds and also have a fixing bolt on my garage wall and another on some posts supporting the garden fence. This will give me a number of positions to hang the hammocks.

I started with digging a deep hole in the space where I cleared my peas earlier and another in the corner of my onion bed. The holes are over a metre deep and the post where packed in with plenty of hardcore so I am not expecting them to move. The eye bolts are drilled throught the posts at a height of 1.8m. There is roughtly 3m between the posts. I also added a masonry eye bolt to the shed wall which gives me another mounting position betwen the shed and the post in my first raised bed.

Pretty happy with the job and the kids definitely are enjoying the hammock. I had 4 kids in one of these earlier with no movement on the posts.

Digging the holes and fixing the the post in position was definitely sweaty work so I am finishing of the evening with a nice cold Trashy Blonde from Brewdog. Hope the weather is better tomorrow so I can get some use of the hammocks.....
