Sweetcorn Harvest

At our block party last night one of the nice experiences was being able to pull some ears of corn from my sweetcorn plants in a vegetable bed only a few metres from the BBQ. I left the corn husks on and threw them directly onto the BBQ for about 10 minutes.
The husks work great at sealing the corn and protect the cob from burning from the heat of the BBQ. When ready, peel off the burnt husk to reveal beautifully cooked cob of naturally sweet corn. We ate about 6 or 7 cobs last night and could have eaten more except that the ears that are left on the plants are a little on the immature size.
Sweetcorn is definitely a plant I intend to grow again next year. Early in the season I had mixed results with seed germination and plants maturing at different rates. With 3 months from planting out to harvesting, and requiring a sunny shelters spot, they will rquire a bit of planning next year but in my opinion are a crop worth the effort.
