Upside Down Planter Update

I wrote about upside down planters back in May after I can across them in one of my RSS feeds and saw Woodies selling them. So as a bit of an experiment I made a DIY upside down planter from an empy juice bottle and transplanted a tomato plant into it at the same time as I was plant out my tomatoes into a raised bed. The picture below tells the story. My DIY planter is in the top left corner and has a poor excuse for a tomato growing out from the bottom. These tomatoes are all from the same crop but the tomato in the planter is a fraction of the size, does not have the healthy green colour of the plants in the raised bed, and only has a single truss with no fruit on it yet.
In the future I stick to growing my plants right way up in the ground as nature intended.
