With the summer at an end and with the prospect of fewer jobs in the vegetable garden over the coming months, I am turning my attention to a long list of outstanding indoor jobs. First on the list is a long promised conversion of our old kitchen into a downstairs toilet, shower, and utility room.
We added an extension with a new kichen/dinning area over a year ago. The original kitchen in the house was very small, measuring only 2.4m x 2.7m and included access to the rear of the house. I had made a start on this job at the beginning of the year but with the arrival of spring I was drawn to working oudoors instead. My first task was to isolate the electrics and water before stipping out the old kitchen units. Most of the units were donated to a friend who was looking to add a utility room in his house.
Next on the cards was to remove the concrete floor slab. This was tough, messy work as I only had a sledge hammer and some masonary chisels. The resulting rubble was used as hardcore to create a very solid base for a garden path I laid back in spring. When the extension was built I got a 110mm waste pipe run under the extension to the rear wall of the old kitchen. With the floor dug out the next job was to connect to this waste pipe and postion the first fix for the toilet, shower, sink outlets.
This post has been a catch up on work I did earlier in the year and over the next few weeks I hope to make some significant progress on fitting out the downstair toilet. Some of the next steps are to position the waste outlet pipes, insulate the floor slab, install under floor heating piping, and to pour a sceed.
