Half way through winter and over a month since I start to over winter my chilli plants , fresh foilage has started to appear on the cut back plant stems. I have been keeping the plants on the kitchen island and watering about once a week when the soil looks dry. The few chilli plants I did not prune have less fresh growth so I am debating whether I should trim back the foilage this month to help encourage more growth.
Sign are encouraging that my chillies are surviving the winter in my kitchen where the average temperature is probably in the mid to high teens. They are placed on the island to get maximum exposure to the sun. Importantly I walk by them every day and can see when they need watering.
To get the longest possible growing season for chillies this year I plan to start to sow some new seeds in the coming weeks to add to my chilli collection.
