A GIY And DIY Day

I had a day off work today to look after my daughter so I had a chance to get a bunch of GIY and DIY work done around the house.

  • A surprise hit from last year was the sweetcorn harvest so this year I am growing it again. I sowed a variety called 'Lark F1' back in April. I suspect I have left the sowing of this years crop a little late as the cobs are just starting to set. Last year the crop was sown in March and the cobs were starting to set in late June.
  • Transplanted lettuce sown last month from trays into raised bed.
  • There are plenty of flowers on the tomatoes and I will need to start to water weekly with some tomato feed. Last year's tomato trusses started to set at the end of July and I am expecting similar timing with this crop.
  • Continued to sow more daikon and radish seeds so I have a continuous crop throughout the summer.
  • Moved most of my chilli plants outside into the outdoor propagator.

I also had a chance to tackle a few indoor jobs. I have been making slow progress on the downstairs toilet but I did get a chance to finish the last of the plastering around a door opening. Also ordered a stone top to cover the concealed cistern with a cutout for a sink. I hope to pick it up this Saturday.

I also tried to fit a shower door but since the shower tiles are porcelain my masonry bits were not up to the job of drilling holes in porcelain. I need to pick up some diamond bits this weekend to finish the job.
