Planting Over Winter Garlic

Now is a good time to plant your over winter garlic and onion sets. I picked up a pack of garlic bulbs and onion sets at the garden centre at the weekend and planted the garlic yesterday afternoon. 

A pack of 3 garlic bulbs were split to yield 45 individual cloves. I planted the cloves in a shallow trench about 15cm apart, pointed end uppermost. I expect to see some early shoots from the cloves in December and should be harvesting early next summer. This year's garlic harvest was very poor with problems with rust infection and bad weather. I am hoping for better results next summer
