Fair Head Climbing Meet 2014

June bank holiday started of with some great weather for this year's Fair Head climbing meet. I heading up early Saturday morning with Alex and arrived before noon to a very full campsite. After a quick pitch of our tents and some food we headed straight for the Grey Man's Path and the three star classic route Burn Up (75m, E1 5a, 5a).  I lead the first pitch and had to compose myself a little before committing to climb over the bulge half way up the pitch. Alex made quick work of the second pitch including the strenuous crack climb at the end.

After a break to refuel we went looking for another route in the Grey Man's Path area and after some false starts on some very overgrown routes we settled on CĂș Uladh (83m, HVS 4c, 5a, 4c). The route had some nice sections but looked like it had not been climbed in years with plenty of vegetation and lichen.

Saturday night everyone turned up in Sean's farmyard shed for a talk organised by Mountaineering Ireland. This year's meet also saw the release of the new Fair Head climbing guide. The new guide is very well organised and routes are clear identified.

Sunday was a washout so we headed back early. Even with only one good day of climbing it was an enjoyable trip and a great turnout. Thanks to the meet organisers and to Sean McBride for allowing everyone to camp in his fields and access to the cliffs.
