The Gap of Dunloe climbing meet was on over the weekend. I headed down Friday evening with Jon and arrived to a very full camp site. It looks like the good weather, later date for the meet, and publicity brought out a large number of climbers and boulders for the meet.
Saturday morning we headed for the Faill Ceoil crag to start on the multi-pitch routes. First up was Meltdown HVS (5a,5b). I lead the first pitch which had a few wild sections where I felt the exposure. Jon lead the pitch second pitch which has a nice sequence of moves through a small roof section.
Next up was Bosch E1 (5b,4c). Jon lead the first pitch up to the tree belay mid-way up the crag. I lead the second pitch which involved squeezing my way up between the wall and a holly tree onto some nice climbing to the top.
The combination of the first pitch of Bosch with the second pitch of Meltdown looks like a great route I would like to try in the future.
We didn't get the opportunity to climb on Sunday as the heavy rain Saturday night continued through to the morning. I definitely will get back for more climbing in the gap and hopefully sometime before next year's meet.
