My first early potatoes that I planted back on St Patrick's Day are now close to being ready to eat. I dug up my first crop this afternoon and had some decent sized potatoes. Some are still a bit on the small size. Since I have a reasonable amount of potatoes planted I prefer to start harvesting a bit early so that by the time I get half way throught the crop they should be peaking.
I also need the space occupied by the potatoes in the vegetable beds freed up. I still have some tomatoes and pepper in pots that need to be transplanted to their final position soon. This will rapidly be followed by pumpkins and courgettes that will be pot bound in a few weeks if I can not fine some space for them. Nothing like a bit of crop rotation and multiple harvests from the same bed in a season.
Looking forward to eating these with some salt and butter this evening.
Check out the category timeline for the posts tracking the progress of this crop from start to now. By mid-July I suspect this crop will all be eaten and new crops will be occupying the space. At least that is the plan
