I planted my pumpkins and courgettes a little too close to each other so things are getting a little crowded in the bed. To help with this I have started to train the pumpkin runners along some sturdy wires attached my wall fence. The runner is attached to the wire with some garden wire ties every 0.5m.
The above picture shows a small pumpkin starting to form on one of the runners. I am not sure yet if the runner is strong enough to hold the suspended weight of the growing pumpkin but I suspect I may need to add some netting for support. It is a great use of space and it also maximises exposure to sun and helps with air circulation.
