My over-winter garlic have put on a huge amount of growth since I last posted about them back in February. Compared to last year they appear to be about 1 month ahead of last year's crop so I hope to be harvesting the first of this year's garlic at the end of June or beginning of July. Looking forward to the taste of freshly grown garlic.
In the last 2 weeks my onions have stopped adding growth to the shoots and started to bulk out the bulbs. Again compared to last year the over winter cropping seems to be bring the harvesting forward by approximately 1 month.
Over wintering garlic and onion is very little effort. It only requires a bit of organisation in Oct/Nov. Both crops require very little maintenance and seem to be paying a dividend with a much earlier crop this summer.
