I have two rows of leeks sown back in March that are nearly ready for didding in. The variety sown was 'Hannibal' which are an autumn to early winter variety.
When the young leeks are about 20cm long they are ready to plant on. Using a dibber (a pointed wooden stick for making a hole) make a series of holes about 15cm apart. Drop one leek into each hole and water in well. There is no need to back fill the hole with soil, just cover the roots. The leeks need the space for the swelling stem to grow.
I expect to start to harvest the crop in autumn and it should continue to crop through the winter.
