I spent a great weekend climbing in Ballykeefe Quarry, Kilkenny. Headed down Saturday morning with a full car, camped overnight at Treegrove camp site, and another full day of climbing on Sunday. The new stage in the amphitheatre looks great and provides an even better shelter from rain showers than the previous stage :)
There are over ninety routes with grades from F4a to F7a (VD to E3), so enough variety for most climbing levels. It was my first time to sport climb and I found that I was attempting harder lead routes than I would normally attempt when traditional climbing. I suppose not worrying about traditional gearing failing removes one barrier to climbing harder routes.
I will definitely be planning another visit in the coming months while the weather is still warm.
