Garlic Rust

This year's garlic crop is quite badly infected with rust. The recent wet weather is not helping matters. Rust is a fungus that shows up as yellow welts on the  foliage of the crop. It mainly affects garlic and leeks. The disease seems to have only affected this year's garlic crop and not spread to the neighbouring onion crop.

There is not a lot I can do to prevent the disease other than to remember to buy bulbs resistant to the disease next year and to not dispose of the foliage in my compost bins after I harvest this year crop.

The foliage may look unsightly but the good news is that rust does not appear to affect the garlic bulb so I still expect to harvest the first of this year's garlic next month.
